The most comprehensive guide to Albania available is published in a new edition, updated throughout and with re-drawn maps to show newly constructed and upgraded roads. New material has been added to expand coverage of outdoor activities. Albania boasts several world heritage sites and thanks to the increasingly stable political situation tourism to the country has grown rapidly in recent years, especially amongst backpackers, archaeology enthusiasts, outdoor activity fans and ornithologists. The author has lived and worked in Albania, speaks the language well and continues to visit regularly.
Gillian Gloyer first attempted – wholly unsuccessfully – to visit Albania in 1981. She finally made it in 1998 and spent most of the next four years living and working there. She travelled the length and breadth of the country for both business and pleasure; she continues to visit the country regularly and retains good contacts there. She speaks the language well and translated the extracts from Albanian authors which feature in the guidebook. She is a keen hill walker and amateur archaeologist.
